A VENUS MANAGER OPPORTUNITY

Fancy being in the presence of fabulous women…on a weekly basis? Want to be involved in the development of women’s rugby at Millwall RFC?

Due to unforeseen circumstances, current Venus Manager Sally Probett has stepped down from her post creating an opportunity for someone – female OR male to come in and help the Venus section get back on track for their season.

We need someone who is reasonably organised and is happy to have a great time on the bus rides to Sunday matches with our girls.

The club’s priority is to ensure that our girls are having an amazing time each time they step out for Millwall. Anyone who volunteers for this position will need to have a key focus on fun and team building.

No matter what your background, whether or not you play rugby, whether you understand the game or not, you could still be a team manager!

If you are interested or you would like to know more about this opportunity, please contact Jodie Botha on clubcaptain@millwallrugby.com / 07845655620 or Matt Shorrock on chairman@millwallrugby.com / 07884012678

***Our Very Own Club House!***

We have finally been given lease of the 2 largest arches on Millwall Park to make into our own club house.  This has taken lots of work by members of the club to achieve and is a huge move forward for the club.  Lots of work needs doing to make these arches habitable, which also means lots of money. Jodie is the coordinator of the clubhouse project, so please mail her with any assistance you can offer.  Also, this project needs money!  Please donate any money you can to help us.  Anyone donating £50 or more will be acknowledged on a board in the clubhouse on completion.  Info on the arches is also available here.

Check out the fixtures list and add the dates to your diaries.

Training Ground: Lower Paddock, off Pier Street, Isle of Dogs. Map

Coach Profiles

Name:Sean McCann

A.K.A: The Silver Fox

D.O.B: 07 June 1966

Occupation: Disaster Management

Previous Clubs: None

Born: Belfast

Position: Flanker

Years Playing Rugby: 22 years playing Rugby, 14 years playing Gaelic Football

Favorite/Most Admired Player and Why: Forwards - Fergus Slattery, A guy that could change a game from being lost to won in one fell swoop, a ubiqitous murauder. Backs - Mike Gibson equally at home at 10 or 12 created the room for the flare players in the various Lions teams to show off, yet, tackled like a demon.

Coaching/Playing Experience:

Gaelic Football - Saul GAC - Down, Ulster U18 Club Champions and All Ireland U18 Finalistand various county medals. University of Ulster (Jordonstown)
Rugby - Ballynahinch RFC, Alyesbury RFC, Collegians and Millwall as a player and have been coaching Millwall for a couple of seasons.

Most Memorable Rugby Moment: Dont mention ponytails!!! For Millwall probably playing alongside Rupert Moreton and Tim Pareham in the back row. A joy to play alongside Chris Underwood and Crispin Payne in the Founders match (the original Millwall back row). Elsewhere playing alongside Marcus Rose, Dixie Querrel and others at Aylesbury. My proudest moment was playing Gaelic football for University of Ulster (Jordonstown) in the grudge match against Queens University when running passed a load of my playing collegues from the Ulster Club Championship who were at Queens University on to the pitch and one said "bloody heck might as well go home now!" I felt so proud - 20 minutes later we got told the referee hadn't turned up and the match had to be replayed at a later date. (I think they already knew.)

Goals For Next Season: For all teams to win everything next season

Name : Eoin O'Connor

A.K.A: Nothing polite to my face. Once upon a time - Ceoin, as in Cohen, as in Coe - Sebastian had just won the Olympic Gold and I was playing for a very jewish team so they gave me a yiddish name to fit in...

D.O.B: 05 April 1965

Occupation: Brand and communications consultant

Previous Clubs: Cork Constitution, Old Bealonians Colts, Wanstead, Campion, Millwall (and guest appearances for Collegians in Durban and Hove). Representative honours for the Air Training Corp in London & South East Counties for three years including two GB championship medals.

Born: Cork, Republic of Ireland

Position: No 8 (flanker, second row, winger)

Years Playing Rugby: 30

Favorite/Most Admired Player and Why: Zinzan Brooke. Everything a no 8 should be and which I can only dream of. Superb runner, kicker, tactician and a born leader on the field.

Coaching/Playing Experience:

Just started helping coaching this season after dislocating my shoulder in April. Started as a winger as I was quite fast as a boy, then joined the pack in my teens. Played flank for most of my career before joining Campion (I am an old boy of the school). Played second row for 10 years, breaking into the first team in my late 20's. Joined Millwall after a few years out, lied about being a no 8 and stayed there until the end.

Most Memorable Rugby Moment:

At the 95 RWC was drinking with the Welsh team after they lost to Ireland (Yeah!) and Gareth Llewelyn and I were approached by some girls. I pretended to be Denis McBride. Gareth played along and we impressed the girls to the point of my autographing their tits as me/Denis had scored the winning try and they were impressed... fools...

Goals For Next Season: Learn a lot more about coaching and get over my shoulder injury so that I can represent Millwall Vets.
