Millwall Venus XV
Match Report Opposition:
Romford Ravens Click here to return to the Match Report Index page. Report written by: Charlie Austen & Hannah “Tank” Clarke It was a beautiful day at Fortress Vicky, the birds were singing, the sun was shining and then the match started. There was a glimmer of hope for an easy match when one of the Raven's cars got lost and made it all the way to Kent . But it was not to be and the Venus girls had a very tough game ahead of them.
There was a frustrating start, where the Ravens' superior speed led to several tries. Despite some gallant attempts and fantastic tackles, Venus could not stop the Ravens from breaking through, most notable a very quick number twelve. But then Venus started fighting back!
The forwards fought valiantly and had control in the mauls and after some fantastic rucking and some great tackles from Venus, they were able to stem the tide of tries. There were some excellent team efforts as well as some outstanding individual performances from Claire and Jodie (despite her hangover).
Then in the second half Venus slowed the game down and retained possession more consistently. They also employed some interesting two-man line-outs and there was some great kicking from Trudy which kept the opposition on their toes.
Much to the spectators' delight the heavens opened but it seemed to help the Venus players. Despite soaking the supporters Venus nearly scored a try, they pulled together as a team and were very close to the line with the spectators spurring them on.
Venus hoped for divine intervention when a rainbow appeared above but alas it was too late. The score was 65-0 and we were left with no option but to head for the pub.
