Millwall Venus XV
Match Report Opposition:
Suttom & Epsom Click here to return to the Match Report Index page. Report written by: Rachel Dipper Sunday 30 th October saw the Venus girls take on Sutton and Epsom away. With 28 girls available to play the match, coach Paul was confident we were putting out our best possible starting 15. Following Jodie Botha's excellent suggestion to have a quiet night in on Saturday, the girls arrived promptly at the farm, bright-eyed and ready for anything.
The game began well with Karen “Spanky” Cardy running in a try in the first five minutes. Alison “North” Snape tried to follow suit but failed in spectacular style when she realized she'd actually dived over the 25-metre line – a mistake for which she was awarded Pussy on the Pitch. After an incredible drop goal off the infamous boot of Rachel Dipper, the girls started to get complacent and when Jo Richardson missed yet another tackle, it looked as though the opposition would score. Luckily, Erica Morrison was in hot pursuit and dived in for an ankle tap, bringing her down just metres from the try line. A quick pick up led to a rare moment of glory for Claire Rimmer who made an epic run the entire length of the pitch to score her first try for the club.
Captain Trudie Clarke inspired us all for the second half with a rousing half time speech. She said that although she was disgusted by the bad language on the pitch, she had to admit that this was easily the best rugby she'd seen a women's team play and she was proud to be part of it. There was even a tear in her I as she closed her address with “I love you guys”.
The second half was let down by Louise Norris who, despite several warnings, was given a yellow card for continuously mouthing off to the referee. Luckily, Claudia Visser showed what nice girls we are after Sutton & Epsom's fly half casually walked over and punched her in the face. “It's okay” said Claudia, as the ref stepped up to intervene “accidents happen in rugby. I'm sure she didn't mean it”.
Overall it was a very impressive game by the Venus girls and as always we'd like to thank our loyal supporters. Hannah “Tank” Clarke, who is still out with an ankle injury commented that the game was “incredible” she added “it's inspired me to quit smoking”.
The final score was 67-0 NOTE: This is a fake report as the match was cancelled.
