This
week Millwall Venus played a 'friendly' against (not so friendly) Hove
, a south east league 1 team. With inspiration from an England win on
Saturday, a full team plus subs and the promise that Hove only had 10
players, we set off confidently to Vicky park.
However it all went horribly wrong, from Jodie forgetting vital women's
rugby kit to Hove turning up with a FULL team and expecting over 19-laws,
we knew we were in for a beastly match.
In the first half we worked as a team, slowing the ball down and maintaining
the majority of the possession. With Spanky's excellent tackling at full
back and Captain Jo leading by example, they scored only two tries against
us.
But in the second half our weaknesses began to show. With no one making
their first tackles count, Hove 's try tally started to climb.
Our srummaging was solid and ball handling skilled. There were some great
individual performances, including Alison Pugh (8) and Emma-Louise (13).However
we still need more communication and against a team like Hove lots more
aggression.
The final score was 65-0.
Unfortunately Hove could not join us for a beverage after the game. We
headed to the ledger anyway where we thanked Rhiannon, in true Millwall
style, for arranging the 'friendly'. Pussy on the pitch Sara, newcomer
Claire and women of the match Spanky, E-L, and Alison were also congratulated
with drinks.
Apparently
playing such an experienced team can only make us better, however I still
think I am busy for the return match.....
